We learn from the Holt county papers that Marion Williams, a wood chopper twenty-eight years old, met with a horrible death three or four miles south of Oregon in that county last week. It seems that he went to the timber to chop down a tree and was caught by it, and pinned against some cord-wood. He extricated himself after almost super-human efforts and the loss of nearly all of his clothing and a great part of his skin, and with a broken thigh he crawled sixty yards to the side of a small wood road, where his dead body was found the next morning. It is thought that the accident happened between three and four o'clock on Monday afternoon and that he died shortly before he was found at about ten o'clock on Tuesday morning. The suffering that he must have endured during the long cold evening and night can neither be described or imagined. A man of the same name and same description, used to live near Linden in this county, and it is undoubtedly the same one who so terribly died in Holt county last week.

Atchison County History - The History of Atchison County, to which we have already taken occasion to refer is now being written by the same gentleman who prepared the voluminous histories of Buchanan and of Clinton Counties to which the daily newspapers press of St Joseph, as well as the papers of Cameron and Plattsburg took occasion to refer in terms of unqualified approval.
We are authorized to announce to our readers that the histories of Holt and Atchison counties will appear together in one handsomely bound Royal-octave volume of from 800 to 1000 pages. The projectors of this valuable work are the National Historical Company whose head-quarters are in St Joseph, Mo.
