Obituary of Florence Ann Settles Evans

Mrs. Florence Evans, for many years a resident of Hamburg, passed away at her home in Hamburg, Thursday evening following an illness of about 2 hours. At 10:pm she called her grandson, Lee Evans, and told him she was not feeling well. He summomed help and everything possible was done for her, but, death came only about 2 hours later.

Mrs. Evans was very active and always alert. Her memory was very keen and only recently she enjoyed a family reunion with her children and grandchildren, which was a great joy to her.

Florence Ann, daughter of Tillman and Mary Jane Settles, was born July 6, 1873, in Atchison County Missouri and passed away at her home in Hamburg, Iowa, July 20th, 1948, at the age of 75 years and 23 days.

She was united in marriage to Jeremiah Evans, on Feb. 9, 1891. They were the parents of eight children. Her husband and one son and one daughter, preceeded her in death.

Surviving are three sons, Jesse Tilman, Watson, Mo.; Eugene of Corning, and Cline of Kansas City, Kansas.; three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Lawrence of Sterling, Colo.; Mrs. Edith Miller of Redwood City, Calif.; and Mrs. Eva Young of Kansas City, Kansas.; one sister, Mrs. Edith Gray of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, John Settles of Texas and James of Burchard, Neb., fifteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Mrs. Evans united with the Methodist church of Rupes Grove, Missouri, when a young girl. She was a kind and loving wife and Mother and was respected by all who knew her.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 1, at 2:30pm., at the Johnson Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Earl Melton. Burial was at the Hamburg cemetery.
