Armstrong, Jacob, son of Mr and Mrs J.R. Armstrong,
was born in Hawkins county, Tenn, on December 10, 1875, and passed away
at his home in Watson [Missouri], Oct 18, 1947. He came to Missouri in 1901
and had since lived in and near Watson. He was married to Mae Murdock and
to this union three children were born, Mrs Clara Stanton of Rock Port,
John Armstrong and Orlena who died when a child. Besides his widow, daughter
and son, he is survived by a sister who lives in Colorado and a brother
in Tennessee, also twelve grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the
Baptist church October 20 with Rev Thompson in charge, assisted by Rev Tandy.
Interment was in the High Creek cemetery. [Oct 30, 1947] |

Elliott, Josephine Lavonne, the daughter of
Oscar Myrl and Mary Ann (Osborne) Hixson, was born May 4, 1934, at Tarkio,
Mo, and passed away Wed, Nov 13, 1996, at Clarkson Hospital, Omaha, Ne.
She spent her early years at Tarkio, moving to Shenandoah [Iowa] for
her teenage years, and later to Essex [Essex] before settling in Randolph
[Iowa] in 1974, until her death.
Josephine was united in marriage in 1951 at Shenandoah, to Donald Ray
Roberts. To this union were born 3 children, Donald Ray Jr, Michael Len,
and William Frederick.
She later maried Earl Leroy Elliott in 1961 at Shenandoah [Iowa]. To
this union were born two children, Richard Leroy and Teresa Ann.
Josephine worked as a waitress and health care provider. In 1995, she
retired from Glenwood State School, where she worked as a resident treatment
worker for 30 years.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Donald Ray Jr,
and brother, Donald Hixson.
She is survived by children, Michael Roberts and wife, Betty, of College
Springs [Iowa], William Roberts and wife, Diana, Clarinda [Iowa], Richard
Roberts and wife, Mary, Randolph, and Teresa Elliott, Randolph, sister,
Myrlene Kellison, Rockport, Mo, and brother, Leonard Osborn, Riverton,
Ia. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, numerous
nieces and nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held Sat, Nov 16, at the Hackett Funeral Home,
Shenandoah. Interment is in the Center Grove Cemetery, Westboro, Mo. [Nov

Elsworth, William Arthur, the son of Elbert Elsworth
and Minnie Oswald Elsworth was born near Modena, Mo, Jan 31, 1896. He
died at the Sidney [Iowa] Care Center July 9, 1986, at the age of 90 years,
5 months and 8 days.
His father died when Arthur was seven years of age and he was taken in
by his grandfather and grandmother Elsworth.
When Arthur was 15 he left home and went to work for Jake Roup at Tarkio,
Mo.
In 1915 he came to work for Link Zuck in Hamburg.
In March of 1917 he was united in marriage to Fay Blades and they set
up farming east of town. To this marriage was born one son Robert. Three
days after his birth his wife, Fay died.
In March of 1920 he was united in marriage to Pearl Stitt of Hamburg
and to this marriage two sons were born one of whom preceded him in death.
He farmed around Hamburg for the past sixty years.
He is survived by two sons, Robert Blades of Albuquerque, NM and Forest
Elsworth of St Petersburg, Fl; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services were July 11, at the Rash Funeral Home with the Rev
Mike Rogers of Sidney officiating. Interment was in High Creek Cemetery.

Ensminger, Mrs Mary who has been in poor health for
some time, passed away Thursday morning at her home near Centennial. The
funeral was held Saturday afternoon at Linden church and burial was at the
Grange Hall cemetery. The community extend their sympathy to the family.
Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr and Mrs Will Egbert
of Burlington Junction, Mo, Mr and Mrs Roy Wolf of South Dakota, and Mrs
Porter and daughter of St Joseph. [1941] |

McGinnis, Samuel J., passed away at his home, one mile
west of Blanchard, Ia, in the early morning of May 26. He was 55 years,
7 months and 6 days of age. He was the son of Samuel and Martha Dill McGinnis.
He was born Oct 20, 1879, in Atchison county, Mo., southwest of Blanchard,
and spent his entire life in this community. He received his education
in the rural schools, Tarkio college and Amity college. At the age of
15 years he united with the Reformed Presbyterian church, later transferring
his membership to the Methodist Episcopal church of Blanchard, Ia.
Mr McGinnis was united in marriage July 12, 1905, to Miss Nelle Carr
of Blanchard, Ia, who survives him, together with one son and three daughters:
Carr McGinnis of Clarinda, Ia, Mrs Martha Walkinshaw of Kansas City, Mo,
Elizabeth and June at home; also two small grandsons, two brothers, D.D.
McGinnis of Tarkio, Mo, and W.J. McGinnis of San Francisco, Calif, and
three sisters, Mrs Margaret Johnson of Bridgeport, Nebr, Mrs Tilly Henn
of Blanchard, Ia, and Mrs Mary Emery of Forest City, Mo.
He was a man greatly devoted to his home and family, who feel their loss
most deeply. He was always very much interested in children, and they
all loved him. His grandsons, nieces and nephews were devoted to him and
will miss him greatly.
The funeral services were conducted by the Rev W.M. Doughty, at the home,
after which his body was laid to rest in the Home cemetery.
Nephews were pall bearers: Leo Johnston, Gerald Johnston, Chas Henn,
Phillip Henn, Junior Slusher and Donald Slusher. |

Billups, W.H. (Had), 80, of College Springs [Iowa],
died Wednesday night at Municipal Hospital [Clarinda, Iowa] shortly after
he was admitted.
Mr Billups was born Oct 16, 1893, at Memphis, Mo, the son of Willby and
Ida Mae McMahan Billups. As a small boy he moved with his family to the
Westboro and Tarkio areas.
On February 19, 1919, he was united in marriage to Margaret Nocton who
survives. They farmed in the Blanchard area and moved to College Springs,
where they have lived for a number of years. Mr Billups was known throughout
the area as a farmer and trader of horses and cattle.
Funeral services for Mr Billups were held Saturday at Walker Funeral
Home with the Rev Clarence Landis officiating. Burial was in the Center
Grove cemetery near Westboro, Mo. Soloist was Joe McKinley and Ruth Anderson
organist. Casket bearers were Dave Anderson, Bill Whipp, Charles Whipp,
Allen Reed, Merl Webber and Ross Macrander, Mrs Bill Whipp and Mrs Charles
Whipp were in charge of flowers.
Besides his wife of the home, Mr Billups is survived by two sisters,
Mrs Icile Schneberger of Washington, Kan, and Mrs Ida Enyart of Ottawa,
Kan. |

Trueblood,
Lowell Dean, age 48, of Tarkio, Missouri, passed away Monday night, August
14, 2006 at Community Hospital, Fairfax, Missouri. He was born June 30,
1958, at Elmo, Missouri, to Ralph "Buthch" and Alene (Carpenter)
Trueblood and has resided at Park Place Group Home, Tarkio, Missouri.
He was a member of the
United Methodist Church, Burlington Junction, Missouri; served on the
board of directors for the group home and enjoyed the Special Olympics.
He is survived by his mother, Alene Trueblood of Burlington Junction,
Missouri; three brothers, Charles Burson, Oconto, Wisconsin, Stephen Trueblood
of St. Joseph, Missouri and Kevin Trueblood of Marengo, Iowa; a sister,
Jolene Carder of Tarkio, Missouri; fifteen nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by his father, Ralph in 1995 and his grandparents.
Funeral services were held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, August 17, 2006 at the
United Methodist Church, Burlington Junction, Missouri. Burial was at
the Ohio Cemetery, Burlington Junction, Missouri. Memorials may be directed
to the Special Olympics.

Messman, Hanna Llewellen was born in Iowa, April
6, 1843 and departed this life Nov 30, 1918 aged 75 years 6 months and
24 days. She was united in marriage to John Fred Messman in 1861 in Atchison
County, Missouri. To this union 8 children were born as follows: Henry
Messman of Sheridan Mo. Mrs Martha Majors of St Louis Mo., Mrs Mary Cain
of Craig Mo., George Messman (location unknown) John Messman who died
in infancy, Mrs Bird Downing of Blockton Iowa, Mrs Ida Spargur [sic, Shannon]
of Iola Kansas. Henry Messman, Mrs Kain, Mrs Downing and Mrs Shannon were
present at the funeral.
She obeyed the gospel about one year ago, and united with the Christian
church at Blockton Iowa.
The funeral services were conducted from her home in Sheridan Mo Dec 5
1918 by Challie E Graham after which the remains were laid to rest in
the Sheridan cemetery.
The bereaved ones have the sympathy of friends, all of whom wish for
them the comfort and blessing of
God in this hour of sorrow. |

Hayes, Isaac Barton - I.B. Hayes died at Grape Community Hospital Sept. 26, following a heart attack. He was 59. He was unloading grain when he was stricken.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; children, Nancy Ladd, Johnny Hayes, Becky Thomas, Mary Martinez and Hughie Hayes, several grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Lou Tolliver of Riverton and Millie Simmerman, Farragut.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29 at the Rash Funeral Home with Carroll Fischer officiating. Interment will be in the High Creek Cemetery near Watson.
OBITUARY
Isaac Barton Hayes, son John Franklin, and Nancy Morrison Hayes, was born July 28, 1924 at Watson, Mo. He died at Payne, September 26, 1983 the age of 59 years, 1 month and 27 days. He grew up in the Watson Community and attended Bellview School Atchison County. He servt 2 1/2 years in Japan during WWII.
On September 20, 1958 he was united in marriage to Margaret Ruth Hartman and to this union two sons and three daughters were born. I.B. drove a truck for many years and was employed by the Vogel Popcorn Company of Hamburg for 1 years until he became disabled. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, a sister Fannie, two brothers, John Jr and Gilbert.
Mr. Hayes is survived by his wife, Margaret Ruth; two sons John Barton of Nebr. City, and Calvin (Hughie) of Hamburg three daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Nancy) Ladd, Mrs. Jeff (Becky) Thomas and Mrs. Ernesto (Mary) Martinez all of Hamburg; and six grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Thurs., Sept. 29, at the Rash Funeral Home with Rev. Carroll Fischer officiating. Interment was in High Creek Cemetery at Watson, with Hubert Woodward Post of the American Legion #156 in charge of committal services.

John Wesley Miller, son of Clayton Francis and Martha E. Stephens Miller was born at Nagle, Mo. on Oct. 25, 1892. He attended school and church in the Nagle and Tyrone area.
On January 28, 1913 he was united in marriage to Mamie Clark. To this union two children were born, Fem Mae and Charles.
John served in World War I and received his discharge in December, 1918. In the spring of 1919 he and his two small children traveled by team and wagon to the Landon, Mo. area in Atchison County where he worked on a farm.
John and Thelma Loreau McCool were married at Rock Port, Mo. November 18, 1926. To this union three children were born: Wesley Lee Roy, Christina Mae and John J.
The family lived in the Rock Port, Langdon and Watson areas where John farmed and did river and dike work. They moved to Westboro in April, 1942 where he was a carpenter as long as his health permitted.
John was proceeded in death by his wife Thelma on April 13, 1975. He lived alone until September of 1975 at which time he went to make his home with his son Johnnie and daughter-in-law. After a long illness he entered the Lutheran Memorial Hospital in Grand Island, Neb. on June 26 and died there July 9, 1979.
Besides his wife Thelma, John was proceeded in death by his parents, his son Charles and daughter Mrs. Fern Bruer, two brothers Henry and Francis, three half brothers George and James Maybearry and Ike Miller and one half sister Susan Miller Willhite.
John is survived by his daughter Christina and husband Warran Joe Curran, Greeley, Nebraska; Roy and wife Barbara, Shenandoah, la.; Johnnie and wife Jackie, Grand Island, Nebraska, where he maintained his home. He also leaves two brothers, Robert and Wilson, both of Houston, Mo., a sister Allie Mae Owens, one sister-in-law, Mrs. Jessie (Pauline) Dunlap, Nemaha, Neb. Nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Jennings Chapel in Shenandoah on Friday, July 13 at 10:30 Honorary bearers were Lloyd Brewer, Darrell Dunlap, Donald Saunders and C.L. Snyder, Sr. Casket bearers were Donald Lee Martin, Clarence Major, Vernon Major, Linne Nelson, Bus Anrie and Darrell Pitner. At the Register were Mrs. Marie Hopkins and Mrs. Don Saunders. Serving on the floral committee were Mrs. Lloyd Brewer and Mrs. Vernon Major.
Officiating was the Rev. David Roth. Vocalist: Verdon Sorenson and Organist Mrs. Lloyd Hannah. Interment was at Greenhill Cemetery, Rock Port, Mo. |
